Caregivers Confereence

25th Annual Caregiver Conference

"A Silver Lining"

April 25, 2025

Holiday Inn - 4260 Mitchell Way, Bellingham WA

This conference offers personal and professional caregivers tools, insight, inspiration and support in the hard work that they do and the invaluable service that they offer to seniors in our community.

Featuring Keynote Speaker: Lee Tomlinson
Lee is a stage 3+ cancer survivor, patient-centered care advocate, and customer service expert. Lee is a nationally known thought leader and TEDTalk Presenter on compassionate care. Combining his unique constellation of life experiences for the benefit of healthcare organizations, he is a speaker dedicated to bringing more compassionate care to the forefront of modern medicine.  Lee is the author and co-author of the books, Beyond Good, Beyond Great, to “Legendary” Customer Service, and co-author of WAYMISH (Why Are You Making It So Hard)…for me to give you my money?).
Lee’s program will include two segments: “The Naked Truth about Compassion Is Revealed: A Return to the Heart of Healing” and “Burnout Back to Balanced: Taking Care of You So You Can Take Better Care of Your Patients.”

Other speakers in the lineup include:
Marcie Suppe, RN, “A Caring Response for LGBT Clients”

This presentation is a cultural competency training developed by the VCU Department of Gerontology.  This training uses the documentary film GEN SILENT and is part of the LGBT aging project.  Many states and agencies require cultural competency training for their direct care employees and managers.  This curriculum uses real-life examples and thought provoking exercises created by leaders in the field of LGBT cultural competency training.

Teena Hagerman, Dementia Specialist, “The Eight A's of Dementia”
This segment is a powerful look into what happens to the brain when damage occurs from plaques, tangles and other proteins that cause dementia, stokes, as well as TBI.  We will discuss why people with dementia pace, can't remember how to use everyday objects, can no longer communicate with words effectively, are afraid, get startled easily, can reason with or realize they have a memory issue. Teena’s presentation hits home on patience, respect, dignity and quality care.

Steve Morris, PhD, “Stressbusters”
Steve will present his “Stress Busters,” class. Steve shows us how we can use EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

The event will offer CEU credits for caregivers and will also feature 25+ vendors from across the spectrum of senior care – all ready to be a resource for event attendees.
